The play, the script, the first scene.
As a class we read through the script today, sitting in a circle for a long amount of time switching roles, positions and pages. The play grabbed mine and many others in the classes attention straight away as we were all shocked by the 'non holding back' first scene. The play as it says in the script 'springs into action' from here on. The jumping of time in the play makes it a constant, never slowing story. Also the lines directed to the audience begin to show us as actors the true personality of the person we wish to be soon playing.
However, due to this being a first time run through parts of possible banter, comedy and at some points very serious matters are lost in the drift of stutters, missed stage directions and words such as 'farting' that even at 14 years of age make the entire class erupt in laughter.
After reading it through the play has begun to really interest me and I cant wait to explore it further. Characters such as Kojo, Ara and the man who was stabbed clearly have more to tell, so finishing the play will be very interesting.
